MSW—Advanced Standing

Earn your MSW in less than a year!

Students who have earned a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree within the past seven years can apply their knowledge and earn a Master in Social Work (MSW) in just 30 credit hours. Instead of the traditional 60-credit MSW program, students with their BSW can receive their MSW in less than a year with our accelerated online Advanced Standing program.

The CSWE-Accredited Master of Social Work program at Missouri Baptist University:

  • Prepares students to engage in service and leadership to promote positive social change and challenge injustice.
  • Prepares students to engage in advanced social work practice at the highest professional level of practice informed by theoretical perspectives and knowledge based on research.
  • Prepares students to practice according to the values and ethics of the profession and understand and demonstrate ethical integration of Christian faith in advanced social work practice.
  • Prepares students to demonstrate an understanding of social work theories, values and practices from a Christian worldview.
  • Engages in service to the MBU local and global communities.

What are the benefits of an MSW degree?

An MSW is a graduate-level degree that prepares students for advanced professional social work practice. Requiring a higher level of work than an undergraduate program, an MSW program provides students an opportunity to expand and deepen their theoretical, research, and practice knowledge and skills through intensive classroom and fieldwork experiences.

Students may directly enter the MSW—Advanced Standing program upon graduating from a BSW program, or students may gain work experience between completion of a BSW degree and entry into the MSW program.

To practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or a Licensed Advanced Master Social Worker (LAMS) in Missouri, individuals must have an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program.

Who is eligible for the MSW—Advanced Standing program?

Students who have earned their Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) within the past seven years may enter the program! At an accelerated pace, students can use their BSW credits to earn their MSW in less than one year—faster than most MSW programs. The MSW—Advanced Standing program is completely online, and designed for the working professional.
