Assistant Athletic Trainer - Missouri Baptist University

Missouri Baptist University is looking to hire an Assistant Athletic Trainer.   The assistant athletic trainer is a full-time sports medicine staff person that provides medical care for the student-athletes in concurrence with the policies and regulations approved by the Board of Trustees and the practices and procedures of the university administration.  He/she contributes to the overall health and vitality of the athletics department through strong collaboration with colleagues across campus and through positive participation in departmental projects, tasks, and/or operations.

Responsibilities:
Medical Care

  • Provides medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate and implement injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes with advice from the Head Athletic Trainer and/or physician if needed.
  • Provide accommodation recommendations related to sport for student-athletes with restrictions or limitations.
  • Make return-to-play decisions for student-athletes with advice from a physician if needed.
  • Maintain electronic medical records of all patient encounters in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Communicate with Head Athletic Trainer, physician and coaches on student-athlete injury status.
  • Assist visiting athletic teams with medical accommodations and services as needed.

Sports Schedule

  • Responsible for being present at practices and home events as deemed by the Head Athletic Trainer per risk level of the sport and availability of the athletic training staff.
  • Responsible for being present for away games, if providing services for football, postseason coverage, or as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Administrative

  • Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in supervising Federal Work-Study students and provide preceptor duties of Master’s Athletic Training students as needed.
  • Assist with the annual budget/inventory of all supplies needed to carry out athletic training duties.
  • Assist with the administration of the MBU Department of Athletics Drug Policy and /Testing Program.

Minimum Requirements/Certifications/Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field
  • Knowledge of university, sport, and organizational rules, policies, procedures, regulations, and services/programs; rules governing conference and NAIA participation, sound leadership skills.
  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Licensed by the State of Missouri, Board of Registration for the Healing Arts
  • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers & Health Care Providers

Preferred Education/experience

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
