Doctoral ABD in Leadership in Teaching and Learning Program Overview

The Doctoral ABD in Leadership in Teaching and Learning will allow those who are ABD to complete their Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) with an emphasis in Leadership in Teaching and Learning.

The degree is a practical degree program designed to meet the needs of professional administrators and leaders in curriculum and instruction at the PK-Grade 12 district level who have completed their coursework to return and finish their Ed.D. The need for outstanding administrative leaders in P-12 schools continues at an increasing rate, and MBU prepares students to meet this need in ways that consider the busy schedule of the working professional.

This advanced degree builds on an earned Specialist Degree or its equivalent, and previous coursework, providing students the opportunity to incorporate their teaching and learning experience, preparing them for leadership positions in the field of education. The program stresses the development of leadership in teaching and learning strategies that assist schools in promoting a culture of learning and inquiry. The emphasis on leadership in teaching and learning in this program places achievement in the broader context of scholarship and lifelong learning.

Schedule of Courses

Students will begin with a one-day Residency that allows them to connect with professors and the department to ensure support before they even begin their first day in the program.

Incoming students will join a current Leadership in Teaching and Learning cohort for one class per quarter, which meets once per week for a total of three quarters of coursework to help connect them to other doctoral students. Students will take courses in research to help refresh methodology and a research course to aid them through the dissertation process.

Courses are scheduled year-round in twelve-week quarters. View the academic calendar for this year’s doctoral term dates.

Convenient Locations

Classes are currently offered cohort style at MBU’s main campus.
