Electronic Resources Librarian - Missouri Baptist University

I. Basic Function

The Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of electronic resource management including acquisition, access, administration, support and evaluation for the library collection databases, eBooks, and eJournals.

II. Responsibilities and Authority

Within the limits of authorized university policies, procedures, programs and budgets, the Electronic Resource Librarian is responsible for and has the authority to accomplish the following duties:

  • Provide collection development for electronic resources, including overseeing the budgeting and acquisition of electronic resources as well as evaluating resources and suggesting areas for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot electronic access issues, and other technical issues, including contacting IT, vendors, faculty/staff, and patrons.
  • Create and evaluate workflows, procedures and policies as they relate to the lifecycle of electronic resource management.
  • Maintain vendor relations as the primary point of contact and negotiate licensing agreements with publishers and other content vendors to meet University terms.
  • Compile statistics and usage data to evaluate electronic resources for presentations, surveys, and reports.
  • Provide e-resource training opportunities for faculty/staff, as well as organize trainings for students.
  • Maintain a relevant knowledge of electronic resource management topics and trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

III. Relationships

The Electronic Resources Librarian reports to the Director of Library Services for the interpretation and execution of responsibilities.

IV. Performance Measurement Criteria

An annual performance review will be conducted by the Director of Library Services, including an assessment of the performance of all tasks related to the position based on a review of the job description and recent performance.

V. Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited program.
  • Knowledge of electronic publishing and scholarly communication.
  • Understanding of library operations, trends, and practices.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of database design, markup languages, discovery services, proxy services, standards, protocols and structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with proxy servers, preferably OpenAthens, e-resource management, integrated library systems/discovery services, specifically EDS and FOLIO.
  • Knowledge of electronic resource licensing, copyright, and fair use.
  • Able to troubleshoot e-resource issues.
  • Experience with metadata (cataloging, indexing, and classification)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the electronic resource lifecycle.
  • Experience with project management.

  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.

Spiritual Qualities

  • Must have personal testimony of faith in Jesus Christ. Must be a member of and participate in an evangelical Christian church.
