I. Basic Functions

The Coordinator of International Experiences provides leadership and oversight in international education and enrollment. The Coordinator is a key member of the Student Development team in building campus internationalization and global strategy for the University. The Coordinator is committed to student success and actively advancing global diversity and intercultural competencies at the University in keeping with best practices in international education. The Coordinator works with students, faculty, and staff, including Undergraduate and Graduate programs. The Coordinator manages data collection, organization and distribution of data for retention and completion efforts of International students.

II. Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Within the limits of authorized university policies, procedures, programs, and budgets, the Coordinator of International Student Experiences is responsible for and has the authority to accomplish the following duties:

Undergraduate & Graduate International Student Management

  • Support Office of Admissions and Athletics Department in processing international student visa eligibility
  • Assist with tracking and assessing international student retention
  • Support Office of Admissions and Athletic Department admission process for international students
  • Verify immigration status and prepare students for entry into the U.S.
  • Oversee and direct International Student Experiences student leader(s), graduate assistant(s), and any designed staff
  • Oversee and ensure current immigration advising practices through graduation
  • Oversee and maintain immigration documentation
  • Ensure compliance with F-1 regulations
  • Serve as the Designated School Officer (PDSO) in the Federal Government’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
  • Educate and equip international students on cultural adaptation
  • Oversee and maintain health insurance enrollment of international students
  • Lead in the preparation, supervision, and control of the International Experiences budget

International Experiences

  • Assist with the development and cultivation of cultural competencies for the undergraduate student population through collaborative programming with the Office of Spiritual Life and Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • Assist the developing, operationalizing, and managing outbound student curricular and co-curricular international trips

Student Development – Special Projects

  • Manage special projects for Associate Dean of Students/Deputy Title IX Coordinator

III. Relationships

  • Reports to the Associate Dean of Students
  • Works in coordination with the Director of Admissions and Director of Graduate Admissions

IV. Performance Measurement Criteria

An annual performance evaluation shall be conducted by the Associate Dean of Students to determine if Coordinator’s overall performance is meeting the expected requirements of his/her role and to review and analyze strengths and weaknesses, with focus on future goals and objectives.

V. Requirements

Ideal Candidates will:

Be a professing and committed Christian with an understanding and commitment to uphold the Baptist Faith & Message (2000) within the context of an intentionally Christian liberal arts university.

Minimum

  • Be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (as required for SEVIS PDSO)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with higher education and immigration
  • Have a current passport
  • Experience in counseling, advising, and/or education; program planning and implementation; and strong organizational, communication and mediation skills
  • Exhibit quality customer service that adapts to changing priorities, responsibilities, and community needs and expectations while anticipating and identifying faculty, staff, and student needs
  • Demonstrate MBU core values and commitment to Christian faith

Preferred

  • Earned Masters or Doctoral degree in College Student Affairs, or equivalent discipline
  • 3-5 years of experience overseeing immigration at a higher education institution

VI. Compensation

  • Full-Time, non-exempt
  • Salary competitive, based on experience
