Merry Smith: Alumni Success Story



After a tragic car accident took the lives of her first husband and her two-year-old son, Merry Smith started down a path of change that led her to her calling.

She began following her calling by continuing her education. To get through this trying time and follow this road to success and growth out of tragedy she attended Missouri Baptist University. She earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business Administration.

Smith is now the Psychiatry Clinic Coordinator with SLUCare Physician Group, and oversees the day to day operations of the outpatient psychiatry clinic.Her role includes managing and directing the team of support staff, ensuring a positive patient experience and adherence to policies, procedures, standards and regulations.

Smith is also a Licensed Practical Nurse who worked at Mid-America Transplant Services for more than 13 years. In 2012, Merry was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from MBU.

Merry has also earned a “Certification in Thanatology (death, dying and bereavement)” from the Association of Death Educators and Counselors and a certification in “Death & Grief Studies” from Colorado State University. Her job allows her to share her personal testimony and positively impact others who are walking through challenging times in their lives.
