STL Fire Captain Set to Launch MBU Media Talk Series

St. Louis Fire Department captain and spokesperson Gregg Favre will launch the 2015-2016 Missouri Baptist University Media Talk Series on Nov. 10

The free speaker series event will take place in the Don and Mary Pillsbury Wainwright Performance Hall of MBU’s Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center from noon to 1 p.m.

Favre is a member of the Fire Chief’s command staff, developing and managing policies including media, research and high-profile national events including Presidential
visits, the World Series for Major League Baseball and the civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.

Favre’s writing and research has been featured by CNN, The Daily Show with Jon
Stewart, NPR, MSNBC, the Huffington Post, the LA Times, the Washington Times, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and before the United States Congress. He has been featured on air of NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and NPR.

MBU Media Talk is coordinated by Amanda Staggenborg, assistant professor of public relations and communications at MBU. The series was launched four years ago to further inspire students to achieve their dreams by showcasing interdisciplinary professionals at the top of their fields.

Each guest is hand-picked to highlight the importance of communications in the guest’s industry, including public safety.

“It is so important for communications professionals to build positive relations with the community, especially during crisis situations,” said Staggenborg. “Captain Favre’s background as a spokesperson for the St. Louis Fire Department incorporates all of the elements of ethical communications on a much deeper level and is applicable for all majors.”

Previous Media Talk guests include sportscaster Frank Cusumano, Bill McClellan, long-time columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and Mark Abel, executive vice-president of Weber Shandwick.
