Orientation Council Leader

The Office of Orientation, Growth & Purpose seeks students from a variety of backgrounds representing diverse hometowns, interests, majors, campus affiliations and personal virtues of the students attending Missouri Baptist University. The Orientation Leaders will serve to provide leadership, programming, and support for orientation programs. The Orientation Leader will be responsible for the planning, development, training, and leadership of the Spartan Team Leaders (STLs). The Orientation Council consists of 4 Orientation Leaders.

Orientation

  • Assist in the design, planning, development and implementation of the orientation program for freshmen and transfer students
  • Provide input and feedback for the development of orientation sessions during the Summer Orientation and August programs
  • Work collaboratively with offices and departments to create holistic educational sessions for each of the respective orientation programs
  • Participate and lead orientation sessions during Spring, Summer, and August Orientation
  • Serve as point of contact for new students and their family members
  • Assist with the evaluation of the orientation programs

Leadership to the Spartan Team Leaders

The Orientation Leaders will serve as mentors to the Spartan Team Leaders (STLs). Each Orientation Leader will oversee 5-8 STLs providing leadership development, training, and ongoing one-on-one mentoring with their STLs.

  • Assist with the recruitment and selection of STLs
  • Develop & lead STL training
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of STL Training (Spring & August)
  • Maintain communication with STLs throughout the summer

  • Comfort in addressing large groups of people, including students, parents, faculty and peers
  • Group facilitation skills
  • Preferred candidates will have assumed leadership roles in at least one campus organization or, at minimum, be an active member of an organization on campus
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher or other publication design programs
  • Previous experience with mail merge

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a full-time Missouri Baptist University undergraduate student at the Main Campus in good academic & social standing with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Must understand, be able to interpret and support the vision and mission of Missouri Baptist University and the Orientation Program
  • Adhere to the Missouri Baptist University Spartan Virtues and Spartan Commitments

2021-22 Academic Year Time Commitment

  • Approximately 5-10 hours per week during the academic year (February-April)
  • Full participation in Orientation Programs
    • Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10, 2022
    • Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14, 2022
    • Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17, 2022
  • Full participation in the Spartan Team Leader selection
  • Attend weekly or bi-weekly Orientation Council meetings

Summer Time Commitment

  • May – Up to 20 hours per week
  • June – Full participation in Summer Orientation Programs
  • August 14-18: STL Training and All Division of Student Development Student Leader Training
  • August 19-21: Full participation in Welcome Week Orientation Program

Compensation

  • A $2,000 scholarship for the year – $1000 in Spring 2022 and $1,000 in Fall 2022.
  • Optional – Free on-campus housing for the summer (from close of Spring Housing [May] through return of fall students [early/mid-August]), if student chooses not to live on- campus no additional compensation will be added
  • Orientation staff shirts
