MBU Prepares for Upcoming Production ‘Rumors’
Last week, professional film actor, screenwriter and stage actor Rich Swingle worked with MBU actors in preparation for the upcoming production of “Rumors.”
Swingle has been featured in over 21 movies including, “Indescribable” and “A Christmas Snow,” and has performed as well as mentored actors and actresses in 28 nations.
Kasey Cox (’10), instructor of communications and theatre, invited Swingle here to give the students an opportunity to learn from a Christian theatre professional.
During his visit, Swingle worked with the students involved in the upcoming production of Neil Simon’s “Rumors. ” MBU’s theatre department will be performing the play from Feb. 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. in the Pillsbury Chapel & Dale Williams Fine Arts Center.
In this comedic show, four couples arrive at a 10th wedding anniversary for a mayor and his wife. From the moment the first couple steps onto the stage, chaos ensues as gun shots are fired, the police are called and dinner is served.
“Educationally, for our students, this show is very important because Neil Simon is a notable playwright and it’s important that they do one of his works before they leave,” Cox said. “I also think it’s important to tell this story because it’s important to do theatre just to laugh and have a moment to forget about what’s happening outside of the theatre and enjoy a show together.”
MBU students and alumni are both involved in the telling of this story. The cast includes Andrea Mossman, Holland Doherty, Rebekah Side, Jenalyn Hampton, Emily Crain, Jett Wallace, Caleb Long, Allen Berryman, Philip Parrish and Tyler Gruen.
