The 2013-2014 year is the second year for the Blue Out promotion dates, which encourage all students, faculty, staff, fans and alumni to wear navy to the games and enjoy a unique collegiate fan experience.
“Blue-Outs are a great opportunity for students to show their spirit and cheer their hearts out for MBU Athletics,” said Director of Student Activities, Lara Hines. “They are a great way for students to come together as a community to support their fellow Spartans.”
The Blue-Out schedule kicks-off with men’s soccer on Sept. 18 in a clash with conference opponent Lyon College. Student Activities will host a tailgate at 12:30 p.m. prior to the 1:00 p.m. kickoff. At the game, the first 10 freshmen will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of First Year Experience and the first 75 fans in attendance will receive a free rally towel courtesy of the Division of Health and Sports Sciences.
New to the promotional dates are the inclusion of faculty divisions into the program. The division of Health and Sport Science will take over the first game with other divisions yet to be announced for later dates.
Oct. 22 will be the second date, which features women’s volleyball taking-on local rival McKendree University at 7:00 p.m. First Year Experience will again give away 10 free t-shirts to the first 10 freshmen. In addition, the evening will feature a free Spartan Blue-Out t-shirt giveaway to the first 300 fans.
The third Blue Out date is set for Nov. 9 in conjunction with this year’s homecoming basketball games.
“Picture the stands filled with a hundreds of students dressed in navy blue, faces painted, and hungry for a win,” said Director of Athletics, Dr. Tom Smith. “The spirit is not only contagious, but electric!”
In February, the Spartans will host the second-annual “Shot for Tuition” to be held during halftime of the women’s basketball game against Park University. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. while the men will also play the Pirates at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the “Shot for Tuition” will be available beginning in late September at all home games hosted at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex. Just like last season, students can enter once a game for a chance to take the shot. Every game you attend, the more tickets that you can enter to be chosen.
