professor teaching class

Dr. Amanda Staggenborg, MBU associate division chair for communications assistant professor of public relations, will present a session to the annual Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Northeast District Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, on Friday, June 7.

Dr. Amanda Staggenborg

Staggenborg’s presentation is titled, “PR, HR, and CSR: Know the Difference When Speaking Publicly,” and will identify the difference between policy, transparency, and authenticity in communications with the goal of the presentation to identify and distinguish the heart of an organization’s message while complying with organizational and leadership expectations. Public relations practitioners are required to speak for an organization and its many stakeholders. Many times, the need for authenticity and transparency directly conflicts with the limitations placed on practitioners by internal policies. In the session, practitioners will learn how to use an authentic voice that suits every level of the organization, both internally and externally. She will also discuss customizing various internal and external messages for multiple audiences within one organization.

The annual conference attracts more than 200 communications professionals from across the Northeast District. PRSA represents a community of more than 21,000 public relations and communications professionals across the United States, with 100 local chapters organized into 10 districts.
