Residence life Room & Board Refund and Planning for Move Out
March 25, 2020
Dear Residential Students and Parents,
During these times we appreciate your understanding and patience as the University continues to make decisions considering the evolving changes and recommendations from local and federal governments. Since the University’s decision to move all in-person classes online for the remainder of the semester, we have been working diligently to put plans in place for a pro-rated refund for residential students’ room and board.
Pro-rated refund for room and board
MBU will be issuing a pro-rated refund to residential students for room and board losses. Students who did not return from Spring Break will be pro-rated using March 16, 2020 as the pro-rated start date, which is the day when students would have returned from the University’s Spring Break.
The refund amount will first be applied to any remaining student account balance for tuition and fees for the 2019-2020 academic year. If a student has an account balance of zero dollars, he or she will receive a cash refund, which will be sent by Direct Deposit to the bank account previously provided or by physical check to the local address on file. Scholarships paying for room and board will be pro-rated in the same method as the refund. Students are receiving a refund of 39.6% for unused room and board for the spring semester. Only scholarships covering room and board will be pro-rated by the same amount.

During this time, some of our students have unexpected needs as they are impacted by the economic downturn, family members are laid off, and have unanticipated expenses. If you or your family does not need the refund, or a portion of the refund, please consider donating to MBU and we will use those dollars towards our students’ greatest needs. Residence Hall Move Out/Vacating
Currently, St. Louis County is under Executive Order 15 “Stay at Home.” Residence hall access is deactivated, and students will need to email ResidentLife@mobap.edu to coordinate access for any needed items from their rooms.
To minimize stress on our families, we plan to facilitate move out April 24-May 10, 2020. However, if your unique situation would not allow for this, we are willing to be flexible and ask you to contact the Office of Residence Life at ResidentLife@mobap.edu.
The Office of Residence Life will email additional details in the coming weeks to residential students for a safe and orderly process for scheduling move out.
Based on current guidance from the CDC, along with state and local officials, we believe it’s imperative to take an aggressive approach to social distancing. This is a challenging situation for us all, and we appreciate every one’s cooperation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Benjamin Lion, Vice President for Student Development
