Endowed scholarships provide an opportunity for hundreds of worthy students to benefit from a Missouri Baptist University education that would otherwise be out of reach.
MBU has been blessed with an exceptional community of students. Many of them excel academically and set a standard of high achievement. Some are accomplished musicians and artists who enrich our outstanding fine arts program. Some are talented athletes whose competitive spirit builds our successful sports programs. Some have a deep faith that encourages others.
Over the past several years, the cost of a college education has continued to rise rapidly and outpace family income as well as federal and state assistance. Without scholarship aid, it would be a daunting challenge for many worthy students to have access to a Missouri Baptist University education. Missouri Baptist University’s endowed scholarship program is one important way to address this growing need. Many of our friends, alumni, faculty and staff agree that investing in the lives of these students is one of the most rewarding investments they will ever make.
For as little as $10,000 you can name a scholarship at Missouri Baptist University providing the means for deserving students to enter MBU, year after year, through an endowed scholarship fund. The annual earnings from the endowment generate funds to help students on a continual basis. What better way to honor a loved one, parent, friend, or favorite professor than by investing in young men and women who are preparing to shine on for Christ and His Kingdom. Once the scholarship is established, earnings on the endowment will continue to be awarded annually without additional contributions of the donor. However, many donors and their families make additional contributions to the named fund which provides even a greater benefit to students. Those who establish or contribute to an endowed scholarship typically receive information about student recipients, which helps to convey the ongoing impact of the scholarship.
The core purpose of Missouri Baptist University is to teach, empower, and inspire students for service through lifelong learning. Attracting and retaining outstanding Christian teachers is imperative if we are to achieve this purpose. An endowed professorship may be established for $175,000 and an academic chair for $500,000. The annual earnings from these endowments will strengthen the University’s ability to deepen our excellence in the liberal arts and attract faculty who build on our rich tradition of outstanding teaching, mentoring, scholarship and service.
Endowing a lecture series requires a minimum investment of $50,000. The earnings from this endowment will enable the University to enrich academic and spiritual growth by hosting noted scholars, artists, and other leaders to campus for classroom lectures, seminars, chapel programs, and other special emphases.
A donor who commits to give $1000 or more for at least five consecutive years may choose to establish a scholarship that bears the name of the donor or another person the donor wishes to honor. The donor may help to set specific criteria for annual student recipients, who are chosen by the University.
