Assistant Athletic Trainer (Many Positions Open)

  1. Basic Function

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Athletics Director of Sports Medicine & Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer has the responsibility as a healthcare professional to provide medical care for student-athletes in concurrence with the policies and regulations approved by the Board of Trustees and the practices and procedures of the university administration.

  1. Responsibilities
    • Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operatingprocedures
    • Coordinate and implement injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes with advice from the Head Athletic Trainer and/or physician if needed
    • Provide accommodation recommendations related to sport, for student-athletes with restrictions orlimitations
    • Make return-to-play decisions for student-athletes with advice from a physician if needed
    • Maintains electronic medical records of all patient encounters in accordance with federal and stateregulations
    • Communicate with Head Athletic Trainer, physician, and coaches on student-athlete injury status
    • Responsible for being present at practices and home events as deemed by the Head Athletic Trainer per risk level of the sport and availability of the athletic training staff.
    • Responsible for being present for away games, if providing services for football or postseasoncoverage.
    • Assist visiting athletic teams with medical accommodations and services as needed
    • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in supervising Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers and FederalWork-Study students
    • Responsible for organization and appearance of all Athletic Training facilities
    • Assist Head Athletic Trainer with annual budget/inventory of all supplies needed to carry out athletictraining duties
    • Assist with the administration of the MBU Department of Athletics Drug Policy and Testing Program
    • Maintain Athletic Training Certification through Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer, Missouri licensure, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers & Health Care Providers
    • Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer

  1. Qualifications & Skills
  2. BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
  3. Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferred but not required
  4. Licensed, or eligible for licensure, by the state of Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts
  5. Certified in CPR/AED for Basic Life Support and/or Professional Rescuers & Health Care Providers
  • Performance Measurement Criteria

An annual performance review is to be conducted by the Associate Vice President & Director of Athletics and Associate Athletics Director of Sports Medicine. This review will include an assessment of the degree to which annual duties have been

accomplished, an analysis of the Head Coach’s strengths and weaknesses based on a review of the Job Description and recent performance, and proposed personal and professional development.
