Oh What Would Christmas Come to Be?

(I am really not much of a poet but here is a little Christmas effort-with some helpful editing by my son)

Oh what would Christmas come to be,
If ever t’were bereft,
Of sight and sound, taste, touch and smell,
What then would we be left?

For how beautiful the sight is
Of reds and greens twinkling lights,
That remind us of the star that shone
That holiest of nights.

And how sweet the sound of sleigh bells
Crunching snow and crackling fires,
Of good tidings being sung on high
By hallelujah choirs.

What a feast for taste is Christmas!
Turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie
Spices, cookies, candy, chocolate,
“Cakes of fruit” that never die.

And to touch the season thrills us,
The feel of fur, the stick of pine,
The mug of Christmas cocoa
Warming heart and hand in kind.

Oh to be a nose at Yuletide!
To savor cedar burning bright
To smell the scent of cookies
In the kitchen Christmas night.

What would Christmas come to be,
If ever t’were bereft.
Of sight and sound, taste, touch and smell
What then would we be left?

I dare not even think it!
But instead give thanks and pray

For all the things he’s given man
The seeing eye, the feeling hand
Each sense that lets me understand
The gift of Christmas Day.
