Melissa Payton: Alumni Success Story
As the recently appointed executive director for the St. Louis Bach Society, Melissa Payton (‘03), who graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, is passionate about keeping classical music alive in St. Louis.
Payton was first introduced to the Bach Society, thanks in part to MBU. Her voice made a notable impression on Dr. Dennis Sparger, the Society’s music director and conductor, during a solo performance at an MBU Chorale Concert. Sparger encouraged Payton to audition for the soprano young artist position. Since then, Payton has served as the soprano young artist, principal singer, assistant to the executive director and now the executive director.
Since graduating from MBU, Payton continues to stay involved with the University’s growing fine arts program, mentoring students and performing in productions, including the chorale’s performance of Elijah this year.
A story of shining on.
