Fun Times Planned for Christmas Break

As finals are quickly approaching, MBU students are starting to look ahead to their Christmas break. The new semester does not begin until Jan. 7, so there will be plenty of time for students to take a break from the books.
For many students at MBU, the break will mean a chance to spend time with family and friends. “Over Christmas break I am looking forward to spending quality time with my family, Melissa [girlfriend] and her family,” said Michael Hodges, a sophomore at MBU. “Also, after Christmas I am going to visit my old youth minister in Ozark, Mo., then continue on to Denver for the Denver Christmas Conference.”
Mica Lightfoot, a freshman this year at MBU, is looking forward to a chance to return to her home in the Bahamas for the Christmas break. “My plans for Christmas are to go back home and spend quality time with my family and friends…going to church back home, go to our annual cultural festival called junkanoo, exchange gifts and have a family get together.”
“Over break, I'm looking forward to getting to hang out with friends from out of town that I don't get to see very often,” said Whitney Shaw, another MBU student. “I'm not going anywhere exciting, but I always love the holidays. It's just a nice time to relax and take a break. My family is coming over to our house, so it's a nice time to see everybody at once.”
However, it will not be all fun and games for this MBU senior. “Unfortunately, I also have to take a class over break this year,” said Shaw. “But it's still a break compared to the normal load. And I like the fresh start of the New Year. I'm not very big on resolutions because I usually break them, but it's a good time to make some changes, or at least think about it!”
For MBU junior Alex Cameron, his break may not be as laid back as other students. “It is going to be a hectic break. I am driving to Arkansas, flying to New York City for a few days, flying to Orlando, Fl., to visit family, and then flying back to Arkansas to enjoy Christmas with more family, and then driving back to St. Louis to only drive to Colorado for DCC!”
Sleeping and working out are pretty high on the list for at least one student here at MBU. “I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work out actually,” said Matthew Bryant. “School has been so busy I haven't had a chance. I plan on getting an ungodly (or unheard of) amount of sleep…something we college students lack greatly.”
For some students, the break from school will allow them time to spend on other activities away from school. “I'm going to spend most of it in ‘Drummer Boy’ rehearsals for my church's Christmas production,” said Melanie Craig. “Then for three days we will do five performances. I am very excited about this.”
For other students, it would not be Christmas break without some Christmas music and shopping. “I’m going to go Christmas caroling, Christmas shopping, listen to Christmas music, watch movies by the fire, and go ice skating with my friends!” said MBU junior Bekah Volz enthusiastically.
So whether it is a time of relaxing with family and friends, catching up on sleep or a busy season of traveling, MBU students are making their plans and counting down the days until their last final so they can begin their Christmas break.
