MBU Searches for Ambassadors

The Admissions Office has recently opened up the position of University Ambassador and is looking for 10 motivated and enthusiastic students to show prospective students the best of what MBU has to offer.

Previously the ambassador position has only been available to students from the Ministerial Alliance program who participated as part of their volunteer work. They were required to come in and work for three hours a week, often as tour guides for prospective students and their families; however, if there were no scheduled visits, volunteers were still asked to put in the hours doing various jobs in the Admissions Office.

The Admissions Office is now opening the role to all full-time students with 12 hours of credit and a 2.5 GPA or better and changing the rules so that it is easier on participants and their schedules. “We really want to make it more of a leadership opportunity; we want it to be competitive to get into the program,” said Emily Wilkins, admissions counselor at MBU.

Although it’s opening up to more students, there is still a focus on enthusiastic students who are really interested in helping out the school. “It’s just really important because when a prospective student and their parent come to campus, their first impression is everything,” said Wilkins. “It’s really important to have good students who are involved on campus and can tell good stories of their experience.”

In terms of responsibilities, ambassadors are to provide tours of the MBU campus for one hour a week, attend monthly meetings to keep them up-to-date on information important to prospective students, and provide tours on Campus Visit Days.

University Ambassador is still a volunteer position, so there is no pay, but there are other benefits to taking on the position. “It looks really good on a resume, it’s a great opportunity to share your experience with prospective students,” explained Wilkins. “Who can give them a better example of what the school’s like than a student who is there currently?”

Some have already volunteered with their own qualifications and reasons. “I have a passion for this school, and I do not mind letting people know that,” said Erin McDermott. “All people are different, and I just feel like it will help me be better rounded with new and different people.”

Those interested should contact Jill Hanna, Assistant Director of Admissions, in the Admissions Office.
