Not Just Another Sports Bar

November 29, 2007

By Cara Newby

Another place to eat, work or hang out with friends has emerged in the Loft District of downtown St. Louis. Co-owners Mark Winfield and St. Louis Cardinals baseball player, Jim Edmonds, recently opened F15teen, a 24,000 square-foot restaurant at 1900 Locust Ave.

This three-story brick building was once the Franklin Janitorial Supply Company but has now been transformed into a social and entertaining hot spot.

Alhough not all St. Louis residents know Edmonds’ position or number, his restaurant’s name might help them remember. The name, F15teen, comes from the centerfielder’s number 15. His house, dubbed “Club 15,” was a hangout for the other Cardinals players who wanted to relax and have a drink. This then led to the slight name variation of his new hangout.

The restaurant is available to the public for a variety of events. Arrangements for parties of 8-12 people can be made, and the lounge is also available for business meetings. There is also a space for wedding receptions or business functions. Outdoor dining spaces with two fireplaces provide even more options.

“I think it’s a very good idea to have a Cardinals player open his own restaurant in St. Louis because it will be good for St. Louis’ business. I hope it is successful,” said Christa Webb, MBU sophomore.

Even though F15teen is co-owned by a sports celebrity, it is not just another sports bar. The décor does not include any sports memorabilia. Also, its non-smoking atmosphere encourages diners to enjoy their food or comfortably finish their work.

Webb said, “I eat out at least once a week, and I would probably visit his restaurant on the weekend with some friends.”

The menu includes steak, chicken, pork, pasta and fish dishes. Lighter dishes, including two salad choices, are also available. Certain appetizers including shrimp, crab cakes and beef Carpaccio are other alternatives as well.

F15teen is open Tuesday through Saturday, and offers free valet parking. Dress is business casual, and reservations can be arranged by calling 314-588-8899.
