Finding Part-Time Jobs on Campus

November 29, 2007

Many MBU students are looking for part-time jobs to bring in some extra money, especially around the holiday season. Some of the most convenient opportunities come by way of on-campus jobs.

Part-time employment is a fact of life for many college students. Nearly all universities have flexible duties and familiar environments which make finding a job internally easier than acquiring one off-campus. “What’s so good about getting a part-time job on campus?” MBU junior Lydie Dianda said. “You don’t need to drive to your work place after school, and you already know the surroundings very well.”

Two categories of part-time jobs are provided at MBU. One is called “Federal Work-Study” which includes positions ranging from clerical work to housekeeping. Applicants must be current MBU students and qualify for the Federal Work Study Program. Undergraduate students are in the first consideration while graduate students may be needed for vocational work. Tasks like working in the library or cafeteria are open to the international students.

The other type of job is to work in MBU offices, such as Students Activities, International Student Services and Career Services. “Except for the requirements listed under each job online, the most important and permanent one is about responsibility,” said Nicole Thomas, MBU Employment and Office Coordinator. Work hours range from 10 to 20 hours a week based on different job tasks and needs.

There are two ways to find out about available part-time positions at MBU. The first one is to check out the following website: http://www.mobap.edu/fs/positions.asp. All listings are current needs regardless of posting date. The other way is to keep an eye on the job board which is located on the wall outside Student Activities Office. Information is updated frequently.

The application procedure consists of turning in a completed paper form or filling out a form on the website and submitting it at http://www.mobap.edu/financialservices/fwsapply.asp. Job codes are required. They are listed with all the names and specific requirements of different jobs on http://www.mobap.edu/financialservices/fwsjoblistings.asp. Student workers get paid monthly.
