Another Homecoming week has come and gone, and MBU’s festivities have come to a screeching halt. Between the chili cook-off, the tailgate party and the Homecoming Chapel, Homecoming week was chalked full of events every day in which all MBU students could participate.
One event that was new to MBU’s Homecoming week was Mr. and Miss Spirit MBU.
Lara Robey, the director of student activities, was in charge of the events throughout the week and created the montage of activities that all challengers were required to participate in with spirit and enthusiasm.
Among the contestants was the duo of Danielle Endejan and Benjamin Ashley. When asked what her favorite part of Mr. and Miss Spirit MBU was, Endejan said: “I loved being able to see everyone get excited and have a great time. It was fun to get to know a variety of people and have a chance to be silly.”
On Monday, Nov. 5, the theme was 80s day, and contestants had a “Beauty and the Geek” competition. The trick to this game was that the guys could not look at the girls’ faces and had to apply 80s-style make-up.
The contenders competed in a car decorating contest on Tuesday as well as an obstacle course. Throughout the competition, one obstacle was to walk fast balancing lemons on spoons and keeping a balloon between their knees.
On Wednesday, the hula hoop contest challenged their ability to keep that thin, round tube spinning round and round their hips.
Thursday was judgment day for the finalists in chapel. Prior to chapel, the contestants were given a specific amount of newspaper, tape and scissors and expected to create outfits in a half hour. There were 16 spirited pairs introduced on stage as their points were tallied by a panel of judges. Once the points from the entire week were configured, the contestants and the audience anxiously awaited to hear the results. Finally, couple No. 16, Dayne Dyer and Danielle Hayden, were announced Mr. and Miss Spirit MBU.
Endejan added, “It was a great experience and a good, light-hearted competition.”
Here’s to another MBU Homecoming tradition.
