One Long Nightmare for Rams Fans

November 15, 2007

By Jacob Wilkins

Rams fans have not had much to cheer about this season. After an optimistic preseason in which the Rams were considered to be outside contenders for the Super Bowl, the team kicked off the season with a 0-8 performance, the worst in franchise history.

This past Sunday gave Rams fans a little relief from the suffering, with the Rams putting up a remarkably strong performance in their 37-29 win away from home against the Saints. The 37 points the offense scored was the most surprising aspect of the game, since the poorly performing Rams offense had been especially bad on the road, averaging just about five points per game.

Despite the win, there is still not a lot for Rams fans to be happy about. With the win, the Rams “improve” to 1-8, which is only the second-worst record in the league (the even unhappier Dolphins are 0-9).

Some Rams fans have still tried to follow the team but have found it difficult. “It’s hard to follow the games when they’re not on TV,” said Nick Hon, an MBU student.

The Rams games are not televised unless the games are sold-out, and because of their poor performances, that simply has not been happening. In turn, some fans have found comfort in other NFL-related activities. “Fantasy football definitely helps,” Hon added.

Some fans still manage to look for a bright side in the Rams debacle though, gaining confidence from Sunday’s win. “I’m ecstatic,” said Jacob Wonsewitz, a junior at MBU, and added jokingly, “I’m ready for them to go 8-8 and have a rematch with the Patriots in the Super Bowl.”
