Homecoming King, Queen and Lucky 301

The student body cheered as each couple proudly paraded into chapel on the morning of Nov. 6. Each pair hoped they would take home the coveted title of Homecoming King and Queen. However, there could be only one couple.
Davey McVicker, sophomore, announced the winners: Kyle Wohlschlaeger and Sarah Long.
Long was excited about the outcome of the vote and said: “The student body picked people who are really involved in school and who really love Mobap. It’s nice to see that they appreciate what’s going on around campus.”
Long also commented that she was excited that Kyle had been voted king because he is a big face on campus.
Wohlschlaeger is a sophomore at MBU and is pursuing a degree in psychology. He was born in St. Louis, but his residence is in Fenton although Pillsbury Huff (PH) is where he currently lives. John Barnes, resident assistant, jokes that PH is Wohlschlaeger’s third home—first is his family home and second is the girls’ dorm.
Wohlschlaeger is actively involved in various school activities and devotes much of his time to the baseball team as he is the administrative assistant to Eddie Uschold.
Long hails from Lakenheath, England. Her father was in the American military, so she holds dual citizenship. She resides in O’Fallon, Mo. although she calls the girls’ dorm her home. She is currently majoring in middle childhood education and minoring in religion.
Long is also involved in various school sponsored activities especially since she sits as president of student activities council. She enjoys her role as president and has big plans for future homecoming activities and events.
But there is an unusual twist to the Homecoming King and Queen excitement.
Room 301…just a number and a room in PH, right? One would think so, but ironically, the last three homecoming kings have lived in room 301 either before or during their reign.
In 2005, Norman Wohlschlaeger, sophomore at the time, won the title of Mr. MBU—the equivalent of Homecoming King. He lived in room 301 since the beginning of his sophomore year and has been in the same room for three consecutive years. Norman said, “It’s the sweetest room in the dorms!”
In 2006, Clayton McKibbin, junior at the time, claimed the title of MBU Homecoming King. He had lived in room 301 since his sophomore year, and during his reign, he lived in the same room. In fact, McKibbin returned to room 301 after approximately a year absence. “It’s like the room calls to me, so at semester, I moved back in,” he said with a smile.
This year, Kyle Wohlschlaeger, sophomore, now carries the honor of MBU Homecoming King. He lived in room 301 as a freshman.
McKibbin said, “It’s most likely coincidence, but I would like to believe that room 301 holds special social powers that make a person known to everyone on campus.” Nevertheless, he does not deny the uniqueness that surrounds the MBU Homecoming King and room 301.
Long also says that the connection is very odd. Wohlschlaeger, McKibbin and Wohlschlaeger all agree that the connection is an intriguing and humorous coincidence. However, McKibbon jokingly added, “We are currently accepting new résumés for room 301 if anyone is interested in running for MBU Homecoming King in 2008.”
