Cures for the Boredom Blues—Exciting Weekend Hangouts for MBU Students

Have you ever spent an entire weekend bored out of your mind because you thought there was nothing exciting to do in St. Louis? Many MBU students have found the cure for their weekend boredom. No, their solutions are not those common tourist spots like the Arch or Forest Park; their hangouts are places such as Skyzone, Adrenaline Zone, Yu Can Du and You’re Fired.
What is Skyzone? “It’s a huge room. It’s padded, and everyone bounces off the walls!” said Rachel Dye, a current MBU student. Skyzone is a court in which the floor and the sides of the wall are trampolines. The cost is $10 an hour for open jumping plus the cost of shoe rental ($2). Skyzone is located in Chesterfield at 17379 Edison Avenue.
Another place that has students talking is Adrenaline Zone. Located off of Old Highway 94 South in St. Charles, Adrenaline Zone houses two recreational activities under one roof. Students can pay $10 per half hour to play Demolition Ball. Also, students can pay $7 a game to play laser tag. “[Demolition Ball] was something different; it was like bumper cars and lacrosse combined,” said Ethan Sharp, another MBU student. Basically, two teams compete by trying to shoot a ball through a goal while driving in bumper cars.
A calmer environment students have found is the Yu Can Du art studio on 20 Allen Avenue in Webster Groves. At Yu Can Du, the student pays a $3 per hour studio fee and purchases something from the shelves to decorate. The items vary from pencil holders to figurines to small tables. There is a ton of different ways to decorate one’s item; some examples are painting, decoupage and mosaic.
Another relaxing hangout is a place ironically called You’re Fired. You’re Fired is a pottery studio on 1121 Howdershell Rd. in Hazelwood. “You’re Fired is a fun place to create your own piece of pottery and to enjoy the experience in a variety of ways,” said Cara Newby, a senior at MBU. The cost is $5 per painter plus the cost of pottery.
