Halo 3 hit the shelves Sept. 24 at 12:01 a.m. People flocked to the stores to pick up this much-sought-after video game, and within 24 hours, American consumers spent a total of $170 million on Halo 3, according to Microsoft Press Centre.
Halo 3 is sweeping the video gaming nation as students are playing almost nonstop to beat this new challenge. Preston McDaniel, graduate student at Lindenwood University, purchased the game Monday night and beat it three hours later. As of Saturday, Sept. 9, he had beaten the game five times.
McDaniel isn’t the only one who has been bitten by the addictiveness of Halo 3. Lee Engelhardt, a senior at MBU, purchased the game on Tuesday afternoon for his sister Diana, who is a sophomore at MBU and an avid game player. Together, they beat the game in three days. “We could have beaten it in two [days], but I had to work,” said Diana.
Even people who do not have an Xbox 360 are getting into the action. Drew Woether and Derrick Johnson, students at Webster University, purchased Halo 3 on Monday night. However, these two friends do not have the game system, so they hunt for an available Xbox 360 among their friends. “We play on my roommates’ Xbox [360], and if they’re busy, we try to find another friend who has the system,” said Woether. “We even have our own controllers,” added Johnson.
Halo 3 has better graphics, a unique story line, co-operative play, and even allows for online play time against other contenders around the world. Video gamers have waited a long time for this game to hit the shelves, and many seem to be happy with the result.
