Open Mic Night at The Perk

September 20, 2007

By Craig Bodenschatz

If you are looking for an energetic event to break the tedium of academic drudgery, look no further than “Open Mic Night at The Perk” on Sept. 26. This special occasion will give students the opportunity to display their artistic, comic, and musical talents and bring MBU’s diverse student body together as a community.

Hosted by MBU’s Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Activities Council (SAC), “Open Mic Night” will present two hours of originality, talent and fun at MBU’s new coffee house. The two-hour event, which will begin at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, will show off artistic talent from MBU.

“Performers will have around five minutes and they can play and sing, as well as do skits, read poetry or rap,” said Sarah Long, president of SAC. “We just ask that everyone keep their acts and songs clean. This is a Christian campus, you know.”

Those wishing to be involved in preparation or performance should contact Mark Goodwin at 040183@mobap.edu for scheduling.

A sound system is provided, so no equipment is necessary. Musicians who plan to perform with instruments or accompaniment should bring all other items.

The Perk is located between the Jung-Kellogg Library and Administration Building. It opened April 2007 and provides an excellent atmosphere for studying and interacting with fellow students. The Perk serves Kaldi’s coffee as well as an assortment of pastries and other drinks. The venue will also host other upcoming events this year.
