Opportunities Abound In Bywaters Lounge

September 20, 2007

By Kasey Bartley

On Wednesday, Sept. 26, Missouri Baptist University will host the first annual Fall Job Fair in the Bywaters Lounge from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Although MBU’s Career Services has sponsored career fairs since 1996, this year’s fair has undergone a few changes. In the past, there were two fairs during the school year; however, when Career Services assessed the students’ needs last fall, they found that most students were actively searching for employment in the fall semester. As a result, MBU initiated the Fall Job Fair.

Career Services has been hard at work since June of this year mailing invitations to companies who, in the past, have shown interest in MBU students. As a result, there are several exciting opportunities for students this year. The companies represented include Northwestern Mutual, US Cellular, TALX and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Students are encouraged to bring their résumés and be prepared to fill out application forms on site.

Nicole Thomas, employment and office coordinator of career services, believes that the fair is an effective tool for students: “We encourage both current students and alumni who are seeking employment or simply seeking to gain networking or interview skills to attend the Fall Job Fair. There will be a variety of employers in attendance that will be hiring for both part-time and full-time jobs.”
