Just Floatin’ Along

September 20, 2007

By Karen Kratzer

This past weekend, MBU’s Student Activities Council (SAC) and Campus Ministries teamed together to bring some students some fun on the water. It was a day filled with fellowship and rafting in Meramec State Park.

This trip was intended for all new transfer or freshman students. However, more than just new students went. Sophomore Kyle Wohlschlaeger, an avid camper at Meramec State Park, attended this event and said: “The float trip was fun. We had about 15 people who went on the trip. When we got to the State Park, we had to be driven to where we were going to float. Our bus driver was an older man that looked like Santa Claus, and he went by the name of ‘Santa One Feather.’ He was the nicest driver in the world. He told us the history of the park. Then at the end of our ride in the bus, he told us that the real reason for Christmas was because God sent his one and only son to save us from our sin. It was the most amazing thing, though, because he used the bus as a small ministry.”

Participants rode in four different rafts. Wohlschlaeger shared a raft with sophomores Kyle Dresser, Cory McDaniel, Davy McVicker and Ross Deal. They were on the water from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

“After we got on the water, we realized that it was freezing outside. The water was warm, but the air was so cold that no one really got into the water for an extended amount of time,” said Wohlschlaeger.

Wohlschlaeger reminisced over the conversations he shared with his raft mates, and with each memory, his smile grew bigger and bigger. So, if events like this sound like your idea of fun, contact the Student Activities Council or Campus Ministries for a list of upcoming events.
