Free Music AND Free Food

September 20, 2007

By Laura Hildebrand

Every college student loves that four-letter word that starts with an “F.” Free, free and more free. Unfortunately, there are only so many places poor students can go before restaurants begin taking offense to the frugalness.

Luckily, there is the Taste of St. Louis festival to weigh heavy on the bellies and not on the wallet. This weekend, Sept. 21-23, the city of St. Louis is hosting a huge festival full of art, music and food. This is a time to take advantage of unique, great-tasting food and
an exciting view of St. Louis culture.

This smorgasbord of food and entertainment can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. There are a variety of restaurants that will have booths set up at the festival including Baladas Bistro, El Scorcho BBQ, Joanie’s Pizzaria, Mike Shannon’s, The Melting Pot and The Pasta House Company.

One of the featured restaurants, The Melting Pot in University City, is anxiously awaiting the three-day festival kicking off Friday at 4 p.m. Mary Pfingsten, manager of The Melting Pot, said, "This will be a fantastic way to let people sample our quality food, and they will be able to understand the perks of fondue."

Now nobody has an excuse to go hungry this weekend. Also, local bands such as Soul Asylum, Puddle of Mudd and Bowling For Soup will be lighting up the stage for all three days.
