Bringing the Gospel to all Nations—MBU’s Missions Trips for 2008
September 13, 2007
By Christa Graham
After having a successful trip to Puerto Rico in June, Jonathan White, the campus pastor, is planning a return trip to continue aiding the First Baptist Church of Arecibo. Last semester’s trip agenda included building a home for a needy member of the community as well as helping out at the church’s Vacation Bible School.
The upcoming mission trip, taking place on May 31-June 7, 2008, will have a similar agenda with the addition of participating in a couple more construction projects.
“This trip we are going to give humanitarian aid to [drug-influenced] communities,” said White. He plans for the students to pass out food, water, clothes and toys to the needy.
With the added tasks, White wants to double the amount of students going—from 20 to 40 students.
Puerto Rico is not the only mission trip MBU is planning this year. On May 10-17, 2008, White will also be taking a group of 15 to 20 students to Croix Des Bouqets, Haiti, where students will be partnering with Bethel Mission Outreach & IHOP (International House of Prayer).
Activities planned for the trip include helping out at the local children’s Christian school, performing street evangelism and starting backyard Bible clubs (Bible studies). White also says that MBU students will have the opportunity to play soccer while in Haiti.
The cost for each trip is $700 plus airfare. The cost of a mission trip is usually what discourages students from attending, but this should not stop anyone from going on these trips. Last semester each student had to pay around $1,100. However, through fundraisers and support letters, the entire group of students raised above the total cost for the trip.
Attending either of these mission trips is a great opportunity to reach out to lost and hurting communities. There is a sign-up sheet in Bywaters Lounge for anyone who is interested in going on one or both of the trips.
