The Perk: Remodeled

September 5, 2007

By Eden Yang

The Perk, MBU’s 3,000 sq.-foot, full-service coffeehouse, was founded in April 2007 as an open venue for the university’s diverse population. Since the beginning of this fall semester, The Perk has been through a lot of reconstructive work. Many students and staff are wondering why construction is still ongoing and what changes it will bring.

Lyndsey Wright, the manager of the coffeehouse, said,“We’re currently finishing construction within the Perk to enhance the sound quality within the building. The sound clouds, sound panel walls and the half walls are all efforts to make the space more enjoyable for everyone. Each panel is strategically placed for the greatest effect. The sound walls also provide sectioned off areas so students, faculty and staff can study, pray or just enjoy the space.”

When asked about her expectations for the coffeehouse, Lyndsey said, “My expectations for the building are that students, faculty and staff are able to walk in and feel at home. Thus far the building already has a unique feeling in that its not an office or academic building, but just a place to hang out in between classes or meet your friends. My hopes are that we would only continue to create great drinks with Kaldi’s products, showcase student talent through open mic nights and individual concerts, and have a welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy for years to come.”

Now The Perk is open again with a much better environment. It might take more actions in the future to perfect its functions in order to be a great venue for students.
