New year, new growth
MBU breaks enrollment records—again

Missouri Baptist University welcomed more students than ever before this past fall, according to official census data released Oct. 15.

University-wide undergraduate programs increased by 4.1 percent. The main campus undergraduate enrollment increased by 7.6 percent from last year, said Terry Dale Cruse, vice president for enrollment services.

“Our growth in main campus enrollment is evidence that we’re reaching our goal of becoming more widely known as a model Christian university in the Midwest,” Cruse said. “We face an incredible challenge of accommodating more residential students than ever before in an era when many colleges struggle to fill empty spaces.”

The number of students living in University housing rose by 33 percent. About 285 students are living in campus housing, an increase of 70 over last year's number. All of the University's residential facilities are at capacity, including the University's new Spartan Village. The Village's apartments include private bedrooms, kitchens, patios, and even flatscreen TVs.

Total University enrollment, including students at MBU's nine regional learning centers and its dual-enrollment program, has also set an all-time record with 5,201 students. The University saw an overall increase of 2.7 percent in its headcount.

Last year, the University's total enrollment was 5,062.

Contributing to University growth, MBU continues to expand its online course and program offerings. This fall, MBU added the following four new online graduate programs:  the Educational Specialist, the Master of Science in Fitness Management, the Master of Arts in Counseling, and the Master of Business Administration. These programs attracted 43 students in their inaugural year.

Missouri Baptist University is a Christ-centered university located in Saint Louis. MBU offers more than 40 undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees in education, business and religion and its new terminal degree, the Doctor of Education. In addition to its 66-acre West St. Louis County campus, MBU offers degree programs at nine regional learning centers throughout St. Louis and in Southern Illinois and online.
