MBU outfits new fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment
Saint Louis—Missouri Baptist University has partnered with leading fitness equipment manufacturers to provide a pioneering environment for exercise and wellness.
The MBU Fitness Center, located inside the new Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex (SRC), will include innovative strength and cardio equipment from Matrix Fitness Systems and Octane Fitness. The Fitness Center is set to open in October.
“The goal of the fitness center is to encourage MBU constituents to lead active, healthy lives,” said Loran Richardson, manager of the sports and recreation complex. “This equipment in indicative of the investment MBU is making in the lives of our students, faculty, staff and alumni.”
Each cardio equipment will feature a 15-inch touch screen display, full iPod compatibility and a personal fan. Perhaps most notable, the equipment will feature Virtual Active technology, “transporting” users to various locations throughout the world. Users will see their destination on the screen display, feel the gradual terrain changes under their feet and hear the ambient sounds through their headphones—providing near total immersion.
The strength training machines, part of Matrix’s G7 Strength series, feature a low profile design and are equipped with an electronic counter, tracking repititions, activity time and rest time.
The Fitness Center will also include a pair of exclusive seated elliptical trainers manufactured by Octane Fitness and incline trainer treadmills, manufactured by FreeMotion. The seated ellipticals—the only ones of their kind on the market—allow users to get the same workout as a standing machine without the strain on one’s lower back or hips. The incline trainer treadmills will include workouts powered by Google Maps, include a 10 inch Android touch screen and a 17 inch TV screen. Those pieces of equipment will also include competitive features, allowing user the opportunity to race anyone, anywhere.
The Fitness Center is located on the lower level of the SRC. Floor-to-ceiling windows line the 3,000 square foot center, providing users an impressive view of the University’s campus. In addition to the Fitness Center, the SRC features a suspended track and exercise room, a 1,000-seat gymnasium, locker rooms, a concession area in Spartan Hall, new classrooms and offices for faculty and coaching staff.
