You might not peg Randall Atcheson as a Lady Gaga sort of guy.

Randall AtchesonAfter all, the famed musician began his passion for the piano at age 6, and by age 12 was enrolled at Samford University School of Music in Alabama on a piano and organ scholarship. He later transferred to New York’s famed Julliard School of Music, where he became the only student to receive simultaneous degrees in piano and organ.

Despite his breadth of experience, Atcheson is a Renaissance man—and yes, that may mean an occasional cover of Gaga during one of his show-stopping concerts. Of course pop music is but a segment of the types of genre Atcheson plays—from classical to gospel. Still, when Atcheson performs there is no distinction between classical and pop, great and light music. With an extraordinary gift that he openly credits to his creator, he raises well-crafted music to the level of greatness and takes masterpieces and makes them unforgettable.

Atcheson is set to perform a free concert the MBU stage Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. inside the MBU Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center. For more information, call the MBU Box Office at (314) 392-2345.
