MBU’s EXCEL program garners NACEP accreditation
August 7, 2008
Missouri Baptist University’s dual-credit program for high school students has received accreditation from the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).
MBU’s dual-credit program, called EXCEL, is one of only two programs in Missouri and 29 nationwide to have received NACEP accreditation. Dual-credit programs provide qualified high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to enroll at their high schools in challenging courses normally taken by college students during their freshman and sophomore years of college.
To be considered for accreditation, MBU compiled extensive research data and documentation as part of a rigorous self-study aimed at demonstrating 15 standards of quality.
“MBU is humbled and honored to have received such an endorsement from the highest accreditation body in the country pertaining to concurrent enrollment programs,” said Dr. Arlen Dykstra, MBU provost and vice president for academic affairs. “This accreditation further validates EXCEL’s longstanding tradition of academic excellence.”
Now 25 years old, EXCEL has grown from one class at a private Christian high school in the fall of 1983 to more than 1,800 students enrolled in the fall of 2007. As the fourth largest dual-credit program in the bi-state region, MBU reaches a diverse group of more than 45 schools located throughout mid- and eastern Missouri.
About NACEP: NACEP is a professional organization for high schools and colleges that fosters and supports rigorous concurrent enrollment. Established in 1999 in response to the dramatic increase in concurrent enrollment courses throughout the country, NACEP serves as a national accrediting body and supports all members by providing standards of excellence, research, communication, and advocacy.
