MBU garners approval for online academic programs
June 16, 2008
MSE-Curriculum and Instruction and MSE-Sport Management to debut fall 2008
Fulfilling a vision to reach learners through electronic technology, Missouri Baptist University will begin offering students the option of completing two academic programs entirely online with the fall 2008 semester.
“The implementation of these new online programs marks a pivotal time in the life of Missouri Baptist University as we continue to create a robust online presence,” said Dr. Alton Lacey, MBU president. “The MBU Center for Distance Learning is devoted to engaging online learners through dynamic and academically stimulating opportunities.”
Beginning in August, MBU will offer both the Master of Science in Education-Sport Management and the Master of Science-Curriculum and Instruction online. The Master of Science in Education-Sport Management will be offered exclusively online. Students pursuing the Master of Science in Education—Curriculum and Instruction will have the option of completing the program online, in the classroom or through a hybrid approach that blends both options.
MBU’s Center for Distance Learning currently offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate online courses in six divisions.
Earlier this month, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approved without restrictions MBU’s request to begin offering both programs online. The approval came after a HLC evaluation team accessed the viability of MBU’s Distance Learning opportunities during a three-day visit this past March.
The HLC, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
About MSE-Sport Management:
This 31-credit-hour program provides graduate students with skills to effectively manage in a wide range of sport-related enterprises including interscholastic athletics, intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sports, sport-marketing firms, special-event management, and facility management."
About MSE-Curriculum and Instruction:
The 31-credit hour program offers students the opportunity to enhance not only their comprehension and understanding of curriculum and instruction, but also, to develop the professional technological skills required for success in today’s educational environment. Many classes are offered face-to-face as well as online.
