“Mary Ellen Fuquay is the quintessential example of a loyal servant,” said Dr. Arlen Dykstra, MBU provost and vice president of academic affairs. “Her dedication to this University and, more specifically to our dual-enrollment program is unyielding.”

The award is announced annually at MBU’s commencement exercise. The honor was created in 2003 in continuation of the long-standing Parkway Distinguished Professor Award. The award includes a $1,000 stipend.

The annual MBU Distinguished Professor Award is designed to recognize an exemplary professor who demonstrates outstanding teaching ability, dedication and enthusiasm. Effective teaching, innovation in course design and delivery, effective advising service to MBU’s community, and commitment to high standards of excellence were the criteria used by the University to select this year’s recipient.

Fuquay has been at the helm of EXCEL since 1998. During that time, MBU’s longstanding dual-enrollment program, which is currently offered in more than 45 high schools, has seen steady growth in both students and schools that offer the program. With a student enrollment that now exceeds 2,000, EXCEL is the third oldest of its kind in the St. Louis area.

Fuquay holds a Master of Arts in English from University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts in English, History and Education from Okalahoma Baptist University.
