Hillhouse receives inaugural Missouri Valley Dare to Lead award
April 17, 2008
For his outstanding service to young people and the community, Dr. Ed Hillhouse, MBU associate dean of graduate studies and professor of education, has received the 2008 Missouri Valley Dare to Lead award.

Dr. Ed Hillhouse
Hillhouse is the first in the Missouri Valley region to receive the award, which is presented by the International Leadership Network (ILN). ILN was founded in 1990 in St. Louis based on the belief that young people hold the keys to leadership for America’s future. Since ILN's inception, thousands of youth have been recognized for their positive achievement, behavior, leadership and service. Past recipients of The Gateway Dare to Lead Award—the award’s counterpart for the St. Louis region—include former St. Louis Cardinals President Mark Lamping and Jerome Loeb, the former chairman of May Department stores.
Nominations for the Missouri Valley Dare to Lead came from throughout Franklin, Gasconade, Montgomery and Warren counties.
In addition to his role at MBU, Hillhouse, formerly the superintendent of the Meramec Valley School, is serving in his second term as presiding commissioner of Franklin County.
Hillhouse holds a bachelor of science degree from Southwest Missouri State University in political science; a master of arts degree in political science from the University of Missouri-Columbia; a specialist degree in administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia; and a doctorate in administration from St. Louis University.
