RE: MBU debuts Health and Sport Sciences Club
MBU debuts Health and Sport Sciences Club
October 23, 2007
Missouri Baptist University has launched an organization aimed at better enriching the preparation of students who are pursuing a career in the Health and Sport Sciences industry.
The Health and Sport Sciences Club was created earlier this year in an effort to supplement classroom learning so that students are more amply prepared to compete in either a sports or health-related workforce. Specifically, the organization has as its mission to provide professional development and career experiences to club members, to increase campus awareness of the HSS division and to provide social opportunities for majors and other MBU students.
“The hope is that this organization will not only benefit its members through the various activities and service projects, but also MBU and the St. Louis community,” said Erin McDermott, the organization’s president. “We want to be a club that serves both its members and the community.”
The increasingly popular Division of Health and Sport Sciences offers undergraduate degrees in Sport Management and Exercise Science and teaching certifications in Health and Physical Education. MBU’s Sport Management program is one of only two collegiate programs in Missouri that has garnered approval from the Sport Management Program Review Council (SMPRC). MBU also offers The Master of Science in Education (MSE) Degree in Sport Management, which provides graduate students with skills to effectively manage in a wide range of sport-related enterprises including interscholastic athletics, intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sports, sport-marketing firms, special-event management, and facility management.
For more information about MBU’s Health and Sport Sciences Club, contact Greg Farris, organization sponsor and assistant professor of Health and Sport Sciences, at (314) 744-5352 or via e-mail at farrisg@mobap.edu.
