MBU presents free Worship Arts Seminar

August 3, 2007

Event concurs with launch of Worship Arts major

In conjunction with the launch of its unprecedented Worship Arts major, Missouri Baptist University is hosting a free daylong seminar for worship ministers who thirst to further engage their congregations in authentic, contextual worship.

“Abandoned: Worship as Life, a practical seminar on how the why and what of worship impacts the how of worship,” is set for Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. inside MBU’s Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center, located a quarter mile west of the intersection of highways 270 and 40.

"We are abandoned to worship as life because we have been commanded to offer our bodies of living sacrifices- as in all of the time.," said MBU Worship Arts Coordinator Brad Andrews, referring to the seminar's title. "That means our spiritual act of worship, or our spiritual lifestyle, never ceases."

The seminar will feature a full slate of leading worship arts professionals; reveal practical ways to better lead or transition congregations in an authentic worship that engages cultural mediums; include an inspirational time of worship; and will offer an invaluable time of networking among fellow worship leaders.

The free seminar will include a complimentary lunch. In addition, participants will receive a free ticket for a Shaun Groves concert, which will begin at 7 p.m. that evening inside the MBU Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Art Center. That concert is open to the public; tickets are $5. All proceeds will benefit Compassion International. For more information or to register for the seminar, go to www.mobap.edu/events or call Brad Andrews at (314) 744-5365. For more ticket information about the Shawn Groves concert, call (314) 392-2345 or go to www.mobaptickets.com.

He’s also a solid on-stage performer, executing his art at venues nationwide. The songs on White Flag, his latest album, reflect Shaun’s response to the beatitudes, to how Christ’s teaching in those verses has changed his perspective on his world, church, family, community and, most importantly, his faith.

Joel Lindsey, worship pastor at The Journey.
