Henry receives Distinguished Professor Award
May 15, 2007
Known as a charismatic teacher and ambitious administrator, Amber Henry, MBU dean of the Jefferson College Extension and assistant professor of education, has been awarded the 2007 Missouri Baptist University Distinguished Professor Award.

Amber Henry
“It is our privilege to annually recognize a distinguished professor of the year from Missouri Baptist University,” said Dr. Arlen Dykstra, MBU provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Amber Henry was chosen by her academic peers for her contagious passion for higher education. Amber daily helps students at the Jefferson County Extension in their efforts to become leaders of tomorrow.”
The award is announced annually at MBU’s commencement exercises and includes a $1,000 stipend. The honor was created in 2003 in continuation of the longstanding Parkway Distinguished Professor Award.
The annual MBU Distinguished Professor Award is designed to recognize an exemplary professor who demonstrates outstanding teaching ability, dedication, and enthusiasm. Effective teaching, innovation in course design and delivery, effective advising service to the institution’s community, and commitment to high standards of excellence were the criteria used by the University to select a recipient from among faculty members.
Henry has worked at MBU since 1999. Besides her role as the leader at the Jefferson College Extension, Henry teaches courses in educational technology and methods of teaching. Prior to her employment at MBU, Henry worked as an educator in the De Soto Public School District and the Lebanon Public School District.
Since Henry began leading the Jefferson College Extension, enrollment has more than doubled and both graduate programs and the Educational Specialist degree have been added to the extension’s offerings. In addition, MBU’s Jefferson College Extension will begin offering a host of academic programs in Arnold this fall, making it the only university to offer multiple undergraduate and graduate programs in northern Jefferson County.
Henry graduated from MBU in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She holds both a Masters degree in Education Administration from Southwest Baptist University and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Technology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Teacher Leadership with an emphasis in Educational Technology from Walden University. She plans to graduate in 2008.
