RE: MBU senior adult day again draws crowd
MBU senior adult day again draws crowd
March 23, 2007
Next year’s event to concur with fall musical, Oklahoma!
The senior adult group of Concord Church in South Saint Louis County stays busy. The group annually goes to Branson. They monthly visit restaurants. They’re even planning an Alaskan cruise for this summer.

Tia Wright, a junior at MBU who was cast as Truvy Jones in Steel Magnolias, chats with guests March 22 at the MBU Senior Adult Day.
But despite the multitude of excursions the group attends, MBU Senior Adult Day has time and time again proven to be one of the their favorite outings of the year. This year was no different.
“We look forward to this day every year,” said Helen Keeney, who is a leader of the senior adult ministry at Concord. “Its always such a wonderful event. This cast was just spectacular.”
Keeney, along with more than 250 of senior adults from throughout the bi-state, attended this year’s MBU Senior Adult Day, which was held March 22. Besides taking in the debut of MBU’s spring play, Steel Magnolias, the legions of church groups and individual parties in attendance were treated to a family style dinner inside the University’s Mabee Great Hall.
The group from Concord has attended the spring event every year since it began in 2001. They’re already making plans to attend next year’s event, which has been moved from its longstanding March date to Nov. 8 in conjunction with MBU’s fall musical, OKLAHOMA!

More than 250 guests attended MBU Senior Adult Day on March 22. Guests were treated to the debut presentation of Steel Magnolias, MBU's spring play, and a home style dinner.
About OKLAHOMA!: This Rodgers and Hammerstein favorite tells of the fun, love and romance in the lives of the families living in the Oklahoma territory at the turn of the century. OKLAHOMA! won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1944 and is considered by many to be the first musical comedy to have a plot, musical score and dances. OKLAHOMA! was also the first musical to have its entire score recorded, thus creating the original cast album. The show was the first collaboration between Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein II and was the first show choreographed by Agnes de Mille. Songs include “O What a Beautiful Mornin’”, “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “Surrey with a Fringe on Top” and the title song.
