RE: Spring Lecturer: Dr. Larry Taylor

Spring Lecturer: Dr. Larry Taylor

February 7, 2007

Dr. Larry Taylor, pastor emeritus of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Alexandria, La., challenged Missouri Baptist University students to live an examined life of faith for the 21st Century during the University’s Spring Lecture Series, which was held Feb. 6-8.

“Until we are willing to challenge our most cherished axioms, we haven’t made faith our own,” Taylor explained, during the first day of the three-day series. “A second-hand faith simply won’t do. It has to become personal. It has to truly become your own.”

Each year, MBU holds a Spring Lecture Series during the month of February as another way to help bridge its quest for faith and learning. The free series are open to the public.

Following were the lecture titles for the series:

Feb. 6: “Faith for the 21st Century”
Feb. 7: “Relating Faith to Learning”
Feb. 8: “Sharing Faith with Others”

Taylor, who recently moved to Murfreesboro, Tenn., led Emmanuel Baptist Church for twenty-one years. Prior to his ministry at Emmanuel, Taylor served churches in Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

As a Staley Lecturer, adjunct professor and international guest speaker, Taylor has preached and taught at a multitude of venues worldwide. He has participated in pulpit exchanges in Scotland and England. In addition, he has served as a trustee and Chairman of the Board at Louisiana College and he has held many leadership positions in the Louisiana Baptist Convention.

Taylor graduated magna cum laude from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. where he earned a B.A. in English. He has also garnered both the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Theology degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
