Comfort appointed to lead national accreditation body
January 30, 2007
Dr. Greg Comfort, chairman and professor of MBU’s Health and Sport Sciences division, has been appointed co-chair to the national accrediting body for sport management.

Greg Comfort
In his capacity with the Sport Management Program Review Council (SMPRC), Comfort, along with six other professional members in higher education, is charged with making final decisions regarding national program approval. Accredited programs must meet a host of sport management program standards.
Most recently, Comfort traveled to Washington D.C. in January to determine the approval status of more than thirty sport management programs.
SMPRC, which is formed jointly through the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), an association of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), grants accreditation at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels for the United States and Canada.
In 2005, MBU garnered approval from the SMPRC, one of only two institutions in Missouri and one of only forty-four undergraduate programs nationwide to receive such affirmation. The required courses offered in approved sport management programs prepare students for a wide range of sport–related vocations.
Comfort has published numerous articles, and presented professionally at the local, state, regional, and national level.
