RE: MBU Women’s Track Team Wins Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Achievement Award
MBU Women’s Track Team Wins Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Achievement Award
January 23, 2007
The MBU Women’s Track Team, reigning indoor and outdoor NAIA National Champions, have again made MBU history.
This time, the team, led by Coach Vincent Bingham, has been selected to receive the 2006 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Achievement Award.
“The team reached the pinnacle of success with not only one, but two national championships,” said Bingham, who will be presented with the recognition Feb. 11 at the Hall of Fame’s headquarters in Springfield, Mo. “Their accomplishments are a direct result of tremendous dedication combined with sure talent.”
The Hall of Fame annually recognizes teams who win national championships. This year, MBU was included in the Hall of Fame recognition with the likes of the St. Louis Cardinals, current World Series Champions, and St. Louis native and Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard, who was named the 2006 National League MVP.
Last March, the Spartans took home their first-ever national championship at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Freshman Nadina Marsh won the women's pentathlon during the event, setting a new meet record by accumulating 3,893 overall points. Marsh won or tied for first place in three of the five events.
In May, the Spartans scored 126 points to claim their first-ever NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. In the process, MBU became only the sixth school to sweep the NAIA women's indoor and outdoor titles in the same season.
