MBU Musical Theatre major garners national accreditation

The Commission of the National Association of Schools of Music has granted plan approval for Missouri Baptist University’s new Bachelor of Music In Musical Theatre program.
“The launch of our drama program has bolstered theatre arts at MBU to the next level,” said Joy Powell, director of drama productions and instructor of theatre at MBU. “This accreditation further validates the academic soundness of this exciting program.”
The NASM Commission’s decision formally sanctions the new academic program, which was approved by MBU’s Board of Trustees last February. The theatre arts program will operate under the auspices of MBU’s nationally recognized Music Department, which was first accredited by NASM in 2003.
NASM, founded in 1924, is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges and universities. It has approximately 610 accredited institutional members. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials.
