Some Enchanted Evening: The Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein set for Jan. 19-21

January 3, 2007

Come and experience a nostalgic review of songs that have for decades defined the medium of musical theatre.

This January 19-21, Missouri Baptist University’s Theatre Department will present Some Enchanted Evening: The Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The host of Rodgers and Hammerstein songs will be performed by a premiere MBU cast of zany characters who work for a 1930s radio show.

“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ingenious work still stands as one of the most important in the musical theatre realm,” said Joy Powell, director of drama productions and instructor of theatre at MBU. “To bring their work to the MBU stage is such an honor.”

From Oklahoma! to The Sound of Music, Richards Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II wrote and produced a slew of hit Broadway musicals from 1940 until 1960. The duo’s work won them thirty-four Tony Awards; fifteen Academy Awards; two Pulitzer Prizes; two Grammy Awards; and two Emmy Awards.

Other musicals that the pair produced are Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and Annie Get Your Gun.

Some Enchanted Evening, MBU’s second annual student directed production, will be held in the MBU Recital Hall. Only 155 tickets are available for each performance.
