Pat Lacey Receives 2006 Emerson Award
November 20, 2006
Affirming her zeal for music education, Mrs. Pat Lacey, an assistant professor of music at MBU, has been named the recipient of this year’s Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.

Mrs. Pat Lacey
“Inside the classroom, Mrs. Lacey works arduously to ensure that her students are equipped with the tools needed to succeed in a competitive music industry,” said Dr. Arlen Dykstra, MBU provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Her passion for the art of music, coupled with her continual thirst for knowledge, makes her an instructor who is both moving and demanding.”
The Excellence in Teaching program, sponsored by St. Louis-based Emerson, Inc., annually recognizes more than 100 teachers from pre-school through higher education. The program began in 1989 as part of St. Louis' VP Fair, but in 1991 it was adapted to coincide with the beginning of National Education Week in the fall.
For more than a decade, Mrs. Pat Lacey has helped to create an environment that is conducive to academic excellence at MBU through her tireless contributions and contagious passion for music.
In 1996, Lacey formed Allusion, a premiere jazz performance group. Now in its tenth year, the group—with Lacey at the helm—has received a host of accolades during its brief time of existence. This past May, Allusion took first place in the New York City Vocal Jazz Festival’s collegiate division. The honor won the group a featured appearance in the opening of the 2006 Festival Concert in the Allen room of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
