MBU Trustees Give $1.25 Million Toward Campaign Effort
November 16, 2006
Missouri Baptist University Board of Trustees announced Nov. 16 at their regularly scheduled meeting that they have donated $1.25 million for The Campaign for Missouri Baptist University.
The amount, a part of a matching gift challenge, was raised in just over a year.
The Campaign for Missouri Baptist University is a five-year effort to raise $18 million in cash and deferred gifts. About $7 million will be used to construct the Sports and Recreation Complex. Another $6 million will be designated for endowment and planned gifts. Finally, $5 million will be used for capital improvements, scholarships and other designated areas.
In other business:
• The Business and Audit Committee presented the findings of an annual independent audit by Humes & Barrington, L.L.P., a certified public accounting firm that has been the University’s auditors for more than twenty years. In the findings, the firm reported that this year’s results yielded the most successful audit opinion MBU has ever received.
• The Board approved a number of resolutions of appreciation, including a resolution to the family of the late George and Lucille Meyer for the couple’s significant endowment gift to the University. The University has established the George and Lucille Meyer Memorial Scholarship in honor of the couple’s generosity.
• The Board approved a proposal to sponsor a pair of new charter schools. The sponsorships with Imagine Academy of Careers School and Adam and Eve Academy of Academic Success are now pending approval from the boards of the respective schools and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
• Linda Vines was appointed as an instructor of Human Services and Psychology.
• The Board approved the five-year strategic plan for the University.
• The Board approved the election of the following 2007 Officers: Chairman Bill Houk, Vice Chairman John Hessel and Secretary Mel Bishop.
