MBU Hosts Historical Society Awards Presentation

Marking a decade of partnership, the Historical Society of St. Louis County again held its annual Awards Presentation at Missouri Baptist University.

Kenneth Warren, a professor of political science at St. Louis Univrsity, received the Historical Society's Edward J. Maguire Award for distiniguished teaching.
“The people honored today all have shed light on the historical significance of St. Louis County,” said Arlen Dykstra, MBU provost and president of the Historical Society of St. Louis County. “These award recipients come from all walks of life, but have one thing in common: a respect and love of the past.”
The 2006 presentation, which was held Oct. 12 inside MBU’s Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center during the University’s weekly convocation, marks the Awards Presentation’s twentieth anniversary.
The following recipients were honored for their invaluable contributions to the history of St. Louis County:
Ellen Harris, an author, journalist and teacher, was presented with the St. Louis Book Award for Guarding the Secret: Palestinian Terrorism and a Father's Murder and Dying To Get Married: The Courtship and Murder of Judlie Bulloch.
• Dr. Kenneth Warren, professor of political science at St. Louis University, received the Edward J. Maguire Award for distinguished teaching.
Warren, one of the nation’s leading authorities on politics, is the president of Warren Poll. In his position, he has polled for the media, government, private clients and politicians. In addition, Warren has served as a political analyst for local, national and international media for more than twenty years.
The award is named after the past chairman of the Department of History at St. Louis University.

Harris, an Emmy Award winner, has worked for KMOV-TV Channel 4 News as a producer, off-camera reporter and assignment editor. Her articles have appeared in Newsweek Magazine and the New York Times.
• St. Louis-based brothers Mike and Steve Roberts, who own a diversified $460 million, 34-company corporation, received the James M. O’Flynn Award for their invaluable philanthropic efforts to help build St. Louis. The Roberts brothers continue to pursue a diverse range of business ventures, from real estate development and business consulting to the ownership of televisions stations and wireless communications businesses.
• Ron Silverman, senior vice president and regional manager of Historic Restorations, Inc. (HRI), was presented with the Father William Barnaby Faherty Award.
Silverman is responsible for the largest development venture for HRI. The project, which included two hotels, totaled more than 1 million square feet and encompassed, 1,083 hotel rooms.
